This question is one parents are asking more and more as problems with body image and eating disorders become more common than ever. Do the Media go to Far?

Wednesday, June 10. 2009 Read more »

Do the media take it all too far? Television is our portal to visually seeing the world, but we are all subject to what they deem entertainment. The news no longer has merit as most of it is caused by the media, themselves, for entertainment and ultimately for ratings. Has 'entertaining' been taken out of context? Does it always have a negative connotation? My mother used to say "if you don't have anything nice to say... don't say anything".

I was recently told a story about online dating and it made me realise how dangerous online dating actually is. I know that i fyou 'play it safe' you normally don't get hurt, but what I didn't realise was how safe you actually had to play it. The story was told to me by someone who wishes to remain anonymous. The woman believes that Lavalife has so many members and is the 'biggest dating site on the internet' because they allow cyber bullies to produce hundreds of profiles. The woman who told me this story joined Lavalife because she was lonely, she had just moved states. She chose to meet this man because she thought she knew him. She had talked to him for four weeks beforehand. After she met him the lies began. He told her he wasn't single, that he instrad had a girlfriend but wasn't happy in the relationship and only stayed because of his child, he also told her that his girlfriend was a hitwoman and had gang connections.

One of the most important decisions you have to make as a parent is where to send your child to school. Do you choose religious or not? Public or private? Is it a matter of getting-what-you-pay-for? Do you send your child to the same school as their friends?

Every parent wants to give their child the best opportunities that are available, although parents can be limited in their options by finances, convenience and locality. Choosing a school can be a stressful task. To explore the pressure on families to find the 'right' school, Associate Professor Craig Campbell, Dr. Helen Proctor and Professor Geoffrey Sherington have written the book, 'School Choice', which shows how parents negotiate the new school market in Australia.
