An eBay survey has shown that the average Australian could be more than $3,000 better off. Australians are sitting on a potential fortune of unused and unwanted goods. It has shown that 37% of Australians keep their clutter, which is potential dollars under their beds and in drawers, cupboards and garages. A further 11% put their unwanted items on the curb for the council collection. When surveyed 71% of people could immediately name an unwanted item that still had value, which they could sell. Electronics, fashion, furniture and toys are some of the best items being sold on eBay but 30% of those surveyed admitted to throwing these items out during Spring cleaning!

Pacific Brands Job Cut

Textile Company, Pacific Brands cut 1850 jobs for the first week of March as they decided to move their manufacturing base overseas. The recent mass lay-off at Pacific Brands has sparked Industry Minister Kim Carr to warn that no one's job in Australia is safe. Telstra has revealed they will cut 2000 jobs in the coming months and Lend Lease said it would cut 1700 jobs. After the extreme job cuts and with the brand, Pacific Brands, moving overseas firefighters have demanded that the State Government strip them of the multi-million-dollar uniform contract.

Myspace and Facebook Banned

An Australian survey showed that 55% of staff said their employers banned social networking websites such as Facebook, Myspace and Bebo in the workplace. This is compared to 20% of workers in the UK, 12% in France and 11% in Spain as well as 10% in Germany. Lauren Papworth, is a leading Australian social network strategist and blogger who has 20 years experience in the use of social networks and digital communities. Laurel thinks the change has come about because "there isn't such thing as the 9-5 job anymore and the younger generations know this. Facebook is used partly for work and partly for a mental break."

Money, Money, Money!

The Government’s second attempt at preventing the economy crisis from worsening in Australia is a two-stage employment and stimulus package that is costing Australia $42 billion. The package has recently been approved and the money will begin to be handed out in March. Taxpayers who are on less than $100,000, single-income families and families with school aged children will receive money, as long as they have completed the last financial year's tax return.

The Australian Women & Leadership Forum: Drought Relief Gala Dinner!

The Australian Women and Leadership Forum (AWLF): Drought Relief Gala Dinner. As part of the inagural Australian Regional Womens Leaders Convention, the AWLF in conjunction with Ergon Energy will be hosting a National Gala Dinner and evening with entertainment, all in support of drought relief. Australia is currently in a drought, we have had long periods of dry weather without sufficient rainfall, and our drought has had an injurious affect on Australia crops and families. The current drought has changed the way Australians treat water and Australian's water resources. The long-term affects of drought are beginning to show and the state governments are attempting to 'drought-proof' their states with more permanent water-saving solutions.
