President of the United States, Barack Obama
Barack Obama has been elected the 44th President of the United States,
winning with 256 votes to 141 of Republican rival, John McCain who
admitted defeat after disturbing losses in Ohio and Pennsylvania which
ensured his conquer.
John McCain stated that the failure was his and that he had the honour
of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him on the win for the
country. McCain has come to the end of a long journey ending with
America clearly supporting Barack Obama.
This is a significant day for change, especially for the population of
African Americans living in America and all around the world.
President Barack Obama is the first black president elected as president
of the United States; he has campaigned with a message of hope and
change. Obama pledged to create five million high wage paying jobs in
renewable energy and in re-building roads, schools and bridges,
especially important to Americans as they are at a five year high rate
of unemployment. Whilst finding jobs he also wishes to provide and
extend a greater health care plan.
Celebrities have volunteered and spoken out for this past election to
encourage Americans to vote and have their say in the 44th presidential
election. Hundreds turned out in Grant Park, Chicago, Obama’s home city,
for the result of victory, many wearing badges saying 'I Voted'.
Barack Obama is most thankful for his proud family, his wife Michelle
and two daughters Malia, 9 and Sasha, 6.
Barack Obama took office on January 20th , 2009.
